Bengaluru: The Centre for Cellular and Molecular Platforms (C-CAMP) has launched the AICTE-Inter-Institutional Biomedical Innovations Programme (IBIP) to encourage collaboration between engineering and medical fields. This joint effort was formalised through an MoU between the All India Council for Technical Education (AICTE) and C-CAMP. It aims to promote interdisciplinary education, research, and innovations and promote accessible, affordable, and quality healthcare.
The main goal of IBIP is to encourage collaboration between engineering and medical graduates, postgraduates, and faculty members to address challenges in the medical field. Apart from providing a platform for multidisciplinary education and research that will focus on entrepreneurship in healthcare, IBIP will also offer an online Bio Entrepreneurship Didactic course as a part of the program.
Under IBIP, AICTE will offer a grant of ₹10 lakh, against a matching contribution from participating institutions. This will support the development and implementation of at least 10 ideas and innovations tackling healthcare challenges. Selected institutions will also form a network for better learning, collaboration, and performance.
C-CAMP’s flagship program will provide mentoring, mediation, and support for AICTE-IBIP. Additionally, an awareness program will inform faculty and students at medical and engineering institutes about the benefits of interdisciplinary teamwork and the potential for innovation and entrepreneurship in India.
T.G. Sitharam, Chairman of AICTE, said, “By leveraging their complementary skills and knowledge, students from both disciplines can develop impactful solutions that improve patient care and advance the field of medicine.”
