New Delhi: Jawaharlal Nehru University (JNU) has emerged as India’s highest-ranked university, according to the latest Quacquarelli Symonds (QS) World University Rankings. The University secured 20th position in Development Studies and leading in multiple subjects like Geography, History, Modern Languages, Politics & International Relations, Anthropology, English Language & Literature, and Linguistics.
The Indian Institute of Management (IIM) Ahmedabad ranked 22nd in Business & Management Studies, and IIM Bangalore led in Accounting & Finance. Additionally, the Indian Institute of Technology, Bombay secured 25th place in Engineering-Mineral & Mining, while IIT Madras ranked 29th in Petroleum Engineering.
A total of 69 Indian universities have secured positions in the rankings, across 55 subjects. This marks a 19.4% increase from the previous year, positioning India as the second most represented country in Asia after China, whose 101 institutions made the list.
Of the 424 Indian entries, 72% either debuted, improved, or maintained their standings. Only 18% of the entires experienced a decline. The rankings are based on a comparative analysis of over 16,400 university programs globally.
The universities with the highest representation in this ranking include the University of Delhi with 30 entries, followed by IIT Bombay with 28 entries and IIT Kharagpur with 27 entries. IIT Madras had 22 entries this year, with eight showing improvement, six declining, and four remaining unchanged. At the fifth spot, IIT Delhi had 19 entries, with 11 improving, three declining, and three remaining unchanged.
