Chennai: Omron is gearing up to launch its inaugural manufacturing plant in Chennai, Tamil Nadu, by March 2025. It is a Japanese medical device company known for its digital blood pressure monitors. An estimated ₹128 crore has been invested in the plant currently under construction.
The company has applied for benefits for the plant under the Indian government’s Production Linked Incentive (PLI) scheme. Production is expected to start by next year. After it commences operations, it will focus on manufacturing digital sphygmomanometers (BP monitoring machines), along with other devices that measure cardiovascular health, like thermometers, nebulisers, weighing scales, and ECG monitoring devices.
Omron has also stepped into the atrial fibrillation (AFib) detection market, which is considered crucial for stroke prevention. This will also increase the company’s ‘Made-in-India’ product portfolio.
Tetsuya Yamada, Managing Director of Omron India Healthcare, stated that the company’s India operation generates 90% of its revenues from individual sales.
