New Delhi: The government has appointed Girija Subramanian as chairman and managing director (CMD) of New India Assurance. She will hold this position till she achieves superannuation age or until further notice.
Subramanian is a statistics bachelor’s degree holder. She holds associate membership in the Chartered Insurance Institute, London, as well as fellow membership in the Insurance Institute of India. In 1988, she began working for GIC Re as a direct recruit officer. She spent more than 34 years working in reinsurance departments for a variety of industries, including property, health, and aviation. Prior to taking over as CMD of New India Assurance in September 2022, Subramanian served as the CMD of AIC of India.
At the end of April, Neerja Kapur retired, leaving the post of CMD of NIA vacant. Subramanian took part in a March interview conducted by the government’s headhunting organisation, FSIB, with other qualified general managers.
