Bengaluru: Amazon has introduced Rufus, an AI-powered shopping assistant, to its mobile app in India to address shopping-related queries of customers. The chatbot has been trained on Amazon’s product catalogue and will assist users with shopping queries, recommendations, and product comparisons. It will also be able to compare products or categories by highlighting differences between chosen products and make recommendations accordingly. In addition, the chatbot has been specially customized for Indian customers to generate responses that cater to their specific queries.
Rufus is currently available in beta and therefore can be accessed by selected users on the Amazon app. The icon of the chatbot will be visible at the bottom right corner of the screen for eligible customers. Users can access the chatbot by tapping the icon and selecting suggested queries or entering questions of their own. Rufus has been designed to support follow-ups so that a conversational tone can be maintained with a customer.
A broader rollout of the AI is expected in the coming weeks. Before India, Rufus has already been launched in the US.
