New Delhi: The Indian government has announced that over 29,000 hospitals have been empanelled under the Ayushman Bharat scheme as of June 2024. This significant milestone underscores the ongoing expansion of the flagship health insurance scheme aimed at providing affordable healthcare to millions of Indians.
The Ayushman Bharat scheme, launched in 2018, seeks to cover the medical expenses of economically disadvantaged families by providing health insurance coverage of up to ₹5 lakh per family per year. The scheme includes both public and private hospitals, enhancing accessibility and choice for beneficiaries across the country. The empanelment of over 29,000 hospitals is a key development in the government’s effort to increase the reach and effectiveness of the scheme. This expansion is expected to improve healthcare access and quality for millions of beneficiaries, especially in remote and underserved areas.
The Ministry of Health and Family Welfare highlighted that the inclusion of a diverse range of hospitals helps ensure that beneficiaries have access to a wide array of medical services and treatments. The government continues to work on further expanding the network to cover more hospitals and provide comprehensive healthcare coverage under the scheme.
