Chandigarh: Intending to expedite the criminal justice system and serve as a catalyst for efficiency and transparency, Union Home Minister Amit Shah has introduced four recently created national apps: e-Sakshya, Nyay Setu, Nyay Shruti, and e-Summons.
- e-Sakshya allows investigating officers to record videos and photographs of crime scenes as needed. Officers can also record witness statements and obtain information from them using this program. After the recording is finished, all data is safely sent to an evidence locker and connected to the chargesheet, which is subsequently electronically provided to the court. Prosecutors and defense attorneys can also download these images and recordings for their use.
- Nyay Shruti, the second tool, makes court proceedings more convenient by using an electronic format. The forensics department, police, jails, prosecution, and authorized access points are all connected to this automated system. An alert is sent to the domain application and all pertinent individuals and officers are given a video conferencing link for judicial hearings if the court issues a summons or warrant. The officer or person can participate in the video conference at the appointed time and day to make their statement in front of the court; plans can be made to bring in other witnesses if necessary. Sessions can be recorded and broadcast as needed, and attendance can be tracked.
- eSummons, the third application, manages the electronic adherence to court orders. This facility electronically transmits legal orders issued by the court, such as summons and warrants, to the police. The relevant officers then get these orders on their cell phones. When delivering the orders to the designated addresses, the officers get the recipient’s signature.
- Nyay Setu connects the Police, Prosecution, Prisons, Medical, and Forensics departments together on one dashboard. It will help provide the police with all the information related to the investigation in just one click.
Shah stated that new laws based on modern technology and purely indigenous would be one of India’s most significant reforms in the coming decade. He emphasized that these rules will establish India’s justice system as the most technologically advanced and are focused on justice rather than punishment.
