Indore: IIT Indore has developed soldier-specific shoes with real-time location tracking and the ability to generate electricity. The shoes have been created to improve safety, regulation, and coordination of army personnel. Additionally, these shoes are being considered valuable for civilians too as they can be used to monitor the whereabouts of children and the elderly.
Based on the technology of Tribo-electric Nanogenerator (TENG), the shoes can generate electricity with each step. The innovation can benefit the military personnel in several ways such as:
GPS technology can enhance safety and operational coordination
Ensuring timely assistance in case of emergencies
Charging of essential devices
Maintaining communication in the field
Improving the defense technology
The institute has delivered the first batch of these shoes to the Defence Research and Development Organization (DRDO). Through the integration of energy generation and real-time location tracking these shoes present a useful and inventive resolution to various issues encountered by both military personnel and civilians. This technology has the potential to improve convenience, effectiveness, and safety in many facets of life as it develops.
