University of Southampton to Establish First UK University Campus in India

Bengaluru: The University of Southampton has announced plans to establish a campus in India, marking the first time a UK university will set up a campus in the country. The new campus, expected to be operational by 2025, will be located in Bengaluru, Karnataka, and will offer a range of undergraduate and postgraduate programs.

This move is part of the university’s strategy to expand its global footprint and provide Indian students with access to UK-style education without the need to relocate abroad. The Bengaluru campus will initially offer courses in engineering, computer science, and business management, with plans to expand the curriculum in the future. The establishment of the campus aligns with India’s National Education Policy 2020, which encourages foreign universities to operate in the country. The University of Southampton’s decision reflects growing educational collaboration between India and the UK and aims to cater to the increasing demand for international education among Indian students.

By setting up a campus in India, the University of Southampton seeks to attract a diverse student population while contributing to the development of higher education in the region. The initiative is expected to strengthen ties between the two countries and provide new opportunities for academic exchange and research collaboration.
