New Delhi: Alstom has delivered the first Metropolis train set for the Delhi Metro’s Phase-IV expansion from its Sri City, Andhra Pradesh facility. The order, placed in November 2022, is part of a contract to supply 52 train sets, each with six cars, for the Delhi Metro Rail Corporation (DMRC). These trains, designed for a top speed of 95 km/h, are equipped with driverless GOA 4 technology to improve operational efficiency and safety.
The project spans three DMRC lines, including the extensions of Lines 7 and 8 and the new Line 10, covering 64.67 km. Production of the trains began in February 2024, with Alstom also responsible for maintaining 13 of the train sets for 15 years—a first for DMRC, which has outsourced maintenance to an Original Equipment Manufacturer (OEM) for this phase.
DMRC Managing Director Dr. Vikas Kumar highlighted that the dispatch marks a significant milestone in the metro’s ongoing expansion and aims to enhance capacity and provide more sustainable urban transit options for Delhi commuters.
