Mumbai: Princeton Digital Group (PDG) has announced a major expansion plan in India by investing USD 1 billion in building AI-ready Data Centers in Mumbai and Chennai. With a total capacity of 230 MW, the project is a part of PDG’s USD 5 billion investment program for AI-ready data centers in Asia. This investment comes in light of PDG’s ongoing efforts to support India’s growth as a global AI hub.
Key highlights of the announcement include:
Expansion of the existing MU1 campus in Mumbai by adding three new buildings, increasing the existing capacity to 150 MW.
Entry into Chennai with the launch of a new 72 MW AI-ready campus, named CH1, built over 9.3 acres with scalability for future expansion.
Both campuses are designed for high-density AI deployments and feature advanced cooling technologies to meet the growing demands of the AI and cloud ecosystems.
Focus on sustainability, with the Mumbai facility sourcing 50% renewable energy and plans to increase this as the new buildings come online.
Highlighting the reason behind choosing Mumbai and Chennai as the locations for data center development, Vipin Shirsat, Managing Director of PDG India, explained that both the cities have been pre-eminent hubs for cloud infrastructure in India. The cities have the combination of submarine cable landing proximity, high-quality power supply, availability of renewable energy and robust infrastructure development. He emphasized that with the advancement of Artificial Intelligence in India, both locations are well-positioned to become leading AI infrastructure hubs as well.
