New Delhi: Bharti Airtel has announced the appointment of Shashwat Sharma as its new Chief Executive Officer (CEO) and Managing Director (MD). He is currently serving as the Chief Operating Officer (COO) and will take over the new roles starting January 1, 2026. Gopal Vittal, who has served as CEO for 12 years, will become Vice Chairman while continuing as MD and joining the board of Airtel Africa. Sharma, during the transition phase, will function as the CEO-designate with Vittal mentoring him.
In his new role, Sharma will oversee the entire end-to-end consumer business, including mobility, home, and DTH. In addition, he will be responsible for both consumer and enterprise businesses.
Chairman Sunil Bharti Mittal praised the succession plan, emphasizing the blend of change and continuity. The company also announced reshuffles in board roles, aiming to streamline operations across its businesses.
