MUMBAI: IIT Bombay and ABB India have launched a new laboratory focused on energy-efficient electrical machines and drives at the institute’s Department of Energy Science and Engineering. The lab aims to offer practical, hands-on training to engineering students, preparing them for the rapidly evolving energy sector.
The lab will feature modern industrial equipment, including energy-efficient electrical machines, variable frequency drives (VFDs), and programmable logic controllers (PLCs), enabling students to simulate real-world industrial applications such as wind turbines and electric vehicles. The goal is to familiarize students with modern energy systems and technologies critical to addressing future industry needs.
Sanjeev Arora, President of ABB India’s Motion Business, emphasized the importance of training engineers to meet industry demands while focusing on sustainability. The lab aligns with ABB India’s ongoing efforts to foster skills development in the energy and industrial sectors.
Prof. Shireesh Kedare, Director of IIT Bombay, highlighted the partnership’s role in equipping students with advanced technical knowledge and promoting energy efficiency.
This initiative follows previous collaborations by ABB India with IIT Roorkee and other educational institutions to promote technical education and skill development.
