Rupnagar: The Indian Institute of Technology (IIT), Ropar, has launched ‘Completely Mechanical Passive Motion Machine for Knee Rehabilitation’, an innovative rehab device to make post-surgery recovery for knee disorders more accessible and affordable.
The newly developed device will be entirely mechanical, unlike the traditional machines for continuous passive motion (CPM) therapy, which are expensive and electricity-dependent. It will utilize a piston and pulley system that stores air when the user pulls a handle, allowing for smooth and controlled motion.
According to Dr. Abhishek Tiwari, lead researcher at IIT Ropar, the device has the potential to revolutionize knee rehabilitation in India by providing access to advanced medical technology, particularly in remote areas.
