New Delhi: The Central Government has appointed K Sanjay Murthy as the new Comptroller and Auditor General (CAG) of India. He will replace Girish Chandra Murmu, who was named CAG in August 2020.
The official order stated that “By virtue of the power vested in her by clause (1) of article 148 of the Constitution of India, the President has been pleased to appoint K Sanjay Murthy to be the Comptroller and Auditor General of India with effect from the date he assumes charge of his office.”
Murthy is an Indian Administrative Service (IAS) Officer of the 1989 batch belonging to the Andhra Pradesh cadre. Prior to his appointment as the CAG, he was working as the Secretary of the Department of Higher Education in the Ministry of Education. In this role, Murthy oversaw policies related to higher education, ensuring the implementation of government initiatives, and partnering with educational institutions to promote the development of educational programs across the country. He has been known for his leadership and administrative expertise in the education and governance sectors.
As the CAG, Murthy will be responsible for ensuring financial accountability and transparency in public expenditure. He will assume office after Murmu’s completion of his term on November 20, 2024.
Murthy’s appointment as the CAG not only marks a significant development in his career advancement but also leaves a vacancy in a key position in the Department of Higher Education.
