Mumbai: Netflix has announced the appointment of Ritwik Kumar as the Vice President of its Machine Learning vertical. In this role, Ritwik is tasked with overseeing advanced applications of machine learning, computer vision, graphics, generative AI, and data science. He will be responsible for driving innovation in content production, localization, and promotion strategies.
Ritiwik has been associated with Netflix for more than seven years now. Before this appointment, he held the post of Senior Director of Machine Learning. He led teams focused on innovative projects such as automatic artwork generation, high-quality machine translations, and predictive analytics for content performance. In this capacity, he played an instrumental role in curating solutions for intelligent routing, customer insights mining, and visual content optimization.
Before joining Netflix, Ritwik worked as Senior Engineering Manager for Machine Learning at Apple. There, he spearheaded the development of AI and machine-learning models to combat account takeovers, financial fraud, and piracy issues of platforms like the App Store and Apple Pay. Earlier, Ritwik was a Research Staff Member at IBM Research where he focused on predictive analytics and collaborative filtering. Additionally, he has also served as a Postdoctoral Research Fellow at Harvard University where he worked in areas of computer vision for inventing techniques for segmentation.
Ritwik started his career in academia and research wherein he held teaching and research assistant roles at the University of Florida and Dhirubai Ambani Institute of Information and Communication Technology. In his early career phase, he worked as an intern at IBM and Mitsubishi Electric Research Laboratories (MERL) where he developed techniques for face recognition and medical imaging.
