Gurugram: In an effort to prioritize the safety of its drivers, Uber has introduced a new measure allowing women drivers to receive trip requests only from women riders. The feature was launched based on drivers’ feedback and has supported more than 21,000 trips since its launch.
The option, part of a series of safety-focused updates, empowers female drivers by offering them greater control over their safety and enabling longer working hours. In addition, Uber is encouraging drivers to register on the e-Shram portal with cash incentives, aligning with India’s Code on Social Security for gig workers. Uber also launched other features like “helmet selfies” for safety and mentorship for new drivers to enhance support.
These updates are expected to improve safety, transparency, and earnings for Uber’s drivers in India, including new measures like the Deactivation Review Centre and enhanced Earnings Hub for better financial clarity.
