New Delhi: The Ministry of Housing and Urban Affairs (MoHUA) has announced the appointment of D. Thara, Additional Secretary in MoHUA, as a Member of both the Delhi Development Authority (DDA) and the Delhi Urban Art Commission (DUAC). The appointments were formalized through a notification issued by the Central Government.
Under the Delhi Development Act, 1957, Thara has been nominated as a Member of the Delhi Development Authority with immediate effect. Simultaneously, under the Delhi Urban Art Commission Act, 1973, she has been appointed as a Member of the DUAC. Her tenure in DUAC will be co-terminus with that of the other Members of the Commission, ensuring a cohesive approach to urban development and planning in Delhi.
D. Thara is a 1995-batch Indian Administrative Service (IAS) officer from the Gujarat cadre. With extensive experience in urban development, she has played a pivotal role in shaping housing and urban affairs policies during her tenure at MoHUA. As Additional Secretary, she has overseen critical projects aimed at transforming India’s urban landscape.
Her central deputation tenure, originally set to end on December 5, 2024, has been extended by the Appointments Committee of the Cabinet (ACC). According to the Department of Personnel and Training (DoPT), her deputation will now continue until July 28, 2026, or until further notice, whichever comes earlier.
Thara’s dual appointment reflects the government’s confidence in her expertise and leadership in urban governance. Her contributions to the Delhi Development Authority will be instrumental in shaping policies and initiatives for sustainable urban growth, while her role in the Delhi Urban Art Commission will focus on enhancing the aesthetic and architectural quality of urban spaces in the national capital.
