Agartala: Union Home Minister and Minister of Cooperation, Amit Shah, laid the foundation stone for the Central Detective Training Institute (CDTI) in Agartala, Tripura. This initiative led by the Ministry of Home Affairs aims to bolster security in the northeastern region and neighboring countries while setting high standards in policing.
Enhancing Security Infrastructure in the Northeast
The CDTI is being established on 9.57 acres of land in the Jirania subdivision of West Tripura district, allocated by the Tripura government. Approved at a cost of ₹120 crore, the institute is part of the central government’s vision to address the unique security challenges in the Northeast.
The facility will provide advanced training to over 6,000 personnel annually, including police from northeastern states and Central Armed Police Forces (CAPFs). Equipped with modern amenities such as advanced classrooms, simulation labs, IT data centers, and practical training areas, the institute is designed to enhance the capabilities of security personnel with advanced skills.
Focus on Research and Collaboration
A notable feature of the CDTI is its dedicated academic research center, established in collaboration with educational institutions. This center will focus on studying critical security issues such as counter-terrorism, border management, human trafficking, drug trafficking, illegal migration, and arms smuggling.
Strengthening Regional and International Cooperation
The 69th plenary session of the North Eastern Council (NEC) held in Shillong recommended setting up an academic research center in collaboration with educational institutions to study the unique security challenges of the northeastern region. The establishment of CDTI aligns with these recommendations and aims to enhance security standards through research and training. The institute is expected to play a key role in promoting international cooperation to address cross-border security issues effectively. With the foundation of CDTI in Agartala, the government is taking a significant step towards empowering security forces and ensuring peace and stability in the northeastern region and beyond.
