Patna: The Patna Metro project is on track for its initial launch by mid-August 2025, with operations set to begin on a 6.5 km priority corridor. This corridor will connect Malahi Pakdi to New ISBT, featuring five elevated stations aimed at improving urban mobility in the city.
Urban Development and Housing Minister Nitin Nabin, during an inspection of the construction site, directed officials to expedite ongoing work. He confirmed that major civil work is nearly complete, and efforts are now focused on laying tracks and installing electric and telecom signaling systems. The minister stated that the metro service would significantly ease traffic congestion and reduce travel time for residents.
The East-West Corridor of the Patna Metro will span 16.94 km, connecting Danapur to Khemnichak, while the North-South Corridor will cover 14.45 km between Patna Junction and New ISBT. Together, these two corridors will have 24 stations designed to enhance connectivity across the city.
The upcoming metro depot near Bairia Bus Stand, also inspected by the minister, is being developed as the operational hub of the network. It will include facilities for train maintenance, washing, and a test track for trial runs. A control center will also be established at the depot.
During a review meeting chaired by Abhay Kumar Singh, Managing Director of Patna Metro, officials discussed strategies to ensure timely completion of the project. Representatives from Patna Metro and Delhi Metro were present to evaluate progress and coordinate the next steps.
Once operational, the priority corridor will reduce travel time between Malahi Pakdi and Bairia Bus Stand to just 15 minutes. This development is expected to provide better connectivity to key areas while offering a viable alternative to the city’s congested road network.
