New Delhi: At the bustling corridors of the World Economic Forum in Davos, India’s united front, represented by the Centre and states like Maharashtra and Andhra Pradesh, was a significant highlight.
With Union Minister Ashwini Vaishnaw and Andhra Pradesh Chief Ministers N Chandrababu Naidu and Maharashtra Chief Minister Devendra Fadnavis leading the charge, the delegation emphasized India’s economic resilience, technological prowess, and commitment to inclusive development.
A Unified Team India at Davos
Union Minister Ashwini Vaishnaw set the tone by emphasizing the concept of “Team India,” highlighting the integrated approach of the Indian delegation. “This is a special occasion for all of us. The prime minister guided us in creating an integrated pavilion. Therefore, this time the entire India team is present here as one team,” he remarked.
The India Pavilion stood out for its seamless integration with state-level pavilions, a testament to the collaborative ethos that underpins India’s global representation.
Vaishnaw’s address underscored India’s positioning as a trusted global partner amidst geopolitical and geoeconomic uncertainties. He noted, “Despite all the disruption and all the issues the world is facing, India has emerged as a very trusted country that respects IP rights and is a country where democracy is vibrant.”
Chandrababu Naidu echoed this sentiment, lauding the collaborative spirit of the Indian delegation. “For the very first time, I am seeing Team India in one place talking in one voice. This is the first time I am seeing a well-recognized Indian delegation in Davos,” he said.
He pointed out the country’s strong economic foundation, predicting that India’s incremental GDP growth would make it “unstoppable” by 2028.
A Vision for Economic Growth and Sustainability
India’s commitment to environmental sustainability and renewable energy was a central theme. Naidu highlighted India’s alignment with the Paris Agreement and its ambitious renewable energy targets.
“We are going to add 500 GW capacity in renewable energy. Andhra Pradesh alone will contribute 165 GW, and Maharashtra will add even more,” he stated.
Fadnavis and Naidu presented their respective states as key players in India’s renewable energy and technological landscape. While Andhra Pradesh is focusing heavily on green hydrogen, Maharashtra is capitalizing on its industrial infrastructure to attract foreign investment.
Free Trade Agreements and Global Partnerships
India’s strategic global partnerships also came under the spotlight. Discussing the recently signed free trade agreement with Switzerland, Vaishnaw emphasized the shared values of democracy, mutual trust, and peace.
“The free trade agreement is a progression of those sentiments and values. We see very good scope in sectors such as technology, food processing, tourism, skill development, and education,” he explained.
On European investment in India, Vaishnaw noted the growing confidence in India as a global production hub and technology co-creation destination.
“The numbers are very big. The world is looking at India as a hub for global production,” he said, adding that trust and transparency are the cornerstones of India’s relationship with the European Union.
Technology as India’s Strength
The Indian delegation underscored the transformative role of technology in shaping the country’s future. Vaishnaw highlighted investor interest in sectors like semiconductors, artificial intelligence, electronics manufacturing, and green hydrogen, describing them as “opportunities abundant.”
Naidu elaborated on India’s edge in technology, attributing it to the country’s demographic dividend and global leadership in the tech sector.
“Almost all tech company CEOs are of Indian origin. India is well-positioned in two or three aspects—first-mover advantage, technological integration into all aspects of life, and the global acceptability of Indians,” he said.
He also emphasized the importance of deep technology in areas such as agriculture, healthcare, and human development. Naidu proudly stated, “We are not taking technology from Davos; rather, we are contributing it to the global community. This highlights where we stand today.”
India’s Relationship with the US and Europe
Vaishnaw addressed questions about India’s evolving relationship with the United States, particularly in light of changes in the US administration.
“Our relationship with the US has evolved in a very mature way. We are co-developing technologies, co-creating products, and participating in joint research programs,” he said. He stressed that this partnership, particularly within the framework of the QUAD, is critical for global security and technological innovation.
The minister also outlined India’s balanced approach to trade relations with Europe amidst tensions between the EU and China.
“We don’t think in binaries. We believe in ‘and’ rather than ‘or’. Our relationship with the EU today is totally based on trust,” he remarked, reflecting India’s diplomatic agility.
A Message of Unity and Collaboration
Both Vaishnaw and Naidu emphasized India’s collective representation at Davos.
“When all of us are together from different political parties, regions, and languages, we represent the unity within this diverse group. Our purpose is common, and going forward, we will work as a team,” Vaishnaw stated.
Naidu reinforced this sentiment, highlighting the collaborative spirit across states and political lines. “Here we may be from different political parties, but we are all one when we come to Davos—‘India first, our people first’ is our slogan,” he said.
Golden Era for India
The delegation conveyed a strong message of optimism and readiness for the future. Naidu described this moment as a “golden era” for India, attributing it to economic reforms, technological advancements, and strong leadership.
He appealed to global investors, saying, “If you miss investment, you will miss forever. This is an opportunity for the global community.”
Fadnavis added weight to the conversation, sharing Maharashtra’s vision for integrating technology into governance and industrial development.
Both leaders emphasized the importance of competition among states while complementing each other’s strengths, reinforcing the idea of “One India.”
A Stronger, Unified India on the Global Stage
Davos 2025 marked a significant milestone for India, with the Centre and states presenting a united front. The delegation not only showcased India’s economic and technological achievements but also positioned the country as a leader in sustainability and global collaboration.
It was highlighted during Davos 2025 that India has emerged as a resilient, trusted, and forward-looking nation. As Naidu aptly concluded, “India is well-positioned as of now. The world is saying India is moving very fast. This meeting is an indication that India’s golden era has started.”
