New Delhi: In an unprecedented move, Vikas Kaushal officially took charge as the Chairman and Managing Director (CMD) of Hindustan Petroleum Corporation Limited (HPCL), making him the first private sector consultant to assume leadership at a major public sector enterprise.
Kaushal brings more than two decades of experience in global management consulting, having worked extensively with state-owned oil and gas companies.
Before his appointment, he was a senior partner at Kearney (formerly A.T. Kearney), where he served as Managing Director and Country Head for India and later as Chairman of India Business. He also led the firm’s global energy and process industries division, advising major oil and gas clients worldwide.
Kaushal started his career with ICICI Limited in project finance and advisory services before transitioning into consulting. Since 2000, he has been associated with Kearney, playing a pivotal role in the firm’s expansion in India.
Kaushal is a chemical engineering graduate from Panjab University and also holds an MBA from IIM Ahmedabad.Â
HPCL’s top post has been vacant since 31 August 2024, following the retirement of former CMD Pushp Kumar Joshi.
Kaushal’s appointment comes at a crucial time as HPCL and other state-owned oil firms navigate energy transitions, financial challenges, and global market shifts.
His leadership, strategic planning expertise, and industry knowledge are expected to bring fresh direction to HPCL’s growth and transformation.
