Shillong: The Ministry of Ministry of Development of North Eastern Region (DoNER) has created a High-Level Task Force on Tourism in collaboration with the Ministry of Tourism.
The decision by the DoNER ministry to establish a High-Level Tourism Task Force is aimed at charting a coordinated strategy to unlock the tourism potential of the North East.
As part of the larger plan, one tourism circuit will be identified in each of the 8 northeastern states to promote both domestic and overseas tourists.
The High-Level Tourism Task Force has a wide scope of activities on its agenda. It will examine the tourism prospects across the area, identify the strategic goal and recommend a holistic growth roadmap.

Chaired by Meghalaya Chief Minister Conrad Sangma, the task force also includes Union DoNER Minister Jyotiraditya Scindia, Sikkim Chief Minister Prem Singh Tamang, as well as Tripura Chief Minister Manik Saha.
The Task Force emphasized the need for all Northeast states to work together to present the region as a unified tourism destination. They plan to study successful tourism models from Southeast Asian countries such as Thailand, Cambodia and Vietnam.
Tripura has tried to spotlight the region’s distinctive cuisines as a tourist attraction. Sikkim stressed branding, consistent marketing and cross-state collaboration to drive tourism.
