New Delhi: The Election Commission of India (ECI) is set to launch a new digital platform, ECINET, aimed at consolidating its multiple electoral service applications into a single system.
Currently, the ECI operates around 40 separate web and mobile applications, including the Voter Helpline, cVIGIL, Suvidha 2.0, ESMS, Saksham and KYC App. These apps have collectively seen over 5.5 crore downloads. The new ECINET platform is designed to unify these services under one interface, reducing fragmentation and simplifying access for users.
Officials said the move is expected to improve coordination and efficiency for a wide user base, including voters, election officials, political parties, and civil society organisations. It will also eliminate the need for multiple logins and app installations, which have been a recurring issue during election cycles.
Developed After Multi-Level Consultations
The platform is being developed following consultations with 36 Chief Electoral Officers (CEOs), 767 District Election Officers (DEOs), and over 4,000 Electoral Registration Officers (EROs) across all states and union territories. The development team also reviewed 76 official ECI publications covering 9,000 pages of existing electoral procedures and guidelines to ensure that the platform aligns with current frameworks.
Platform to Support Electoral Workforce and Electors
According to ECI data, ECINET is designed to support close to 100 crore electors and a large electoral workforce that includes more than 10.5 lakh Booth Level Officers (BLOs), around 15 lakh Booth Level Agents (BLAs), approximately 45 lakh polling officials, and thousands of registration and district officers.
Trials and Cybersecurity Underway
ECINET is currently in an advanced stage of development, undergoing functionality tests and cybersecurity assessments. The commission stated that these trials are aimed at ensuring ease of use, operational readiness, and system security before the platform’s formal rollout. The ECI has not yet confirmed a launch date but is expected to unveil the platform ahead of upcoming election cycles.
