Kolkata: The Government of West Bengal’s Co-operation Department will begin training newly elected co-operative society members in financial discipline using smart classrooms.
The state has a total of 4700 agricultural development societies. Recently, elections have taken place and boards have been formed in 2540 of them.
The West Bengal State Co-operative Union is providing this training. Financial discipline is being taught to the Chairman, Vice Chairman and other newly elected members.
The Co-operative educational instructors come to the training centres to provide this training.
There are seven such training centres currently across the state. Smart classrooms are starting in a phased manner. The Bardhaman training centre will start smart classrooms by the end of this month.
Completing audits within the scheduled timeframe, tax returns and cash book-related services are other focus training areas. They are even taught the nuances of the West Bengal Co-operative Society laws.
The administration feels this would bring transparency to the functions of these cooperative societies. This is especially critical considering the roles these societies play in the rural economy, from providing loans to standing guarantors for collateral.
