Shahapur: A long-awaited Rs 70 crore Shahapur drinking water project in Yadgir district is nearing completion and is expected to be inaugurated by Karnataka Chief Minister Siddaramaiah in August this year.
This Karnataka project aims to provide a consistent and clean drinking water supply to the city’s population and two nearby villages, Ingalagi and Madnal, ensuring water security until 2050.
Water to be Sourced from the Bhima River
Implemented by the Drinking Water Supply and Sewage Board, the project sources water from the Sannati bridge-cum-barrage built across the Bhima River. An 18-kilometre-long pipeline has been laid to transport water to a filtration plant within the city. Once treated, the water will be stored in two tanks, each with a capacity of 15 lakh litres, before being distributed directly to households via tap connections.
These storage tanks have been constructed in separate zones under the AMRIT 2.0 scheme to ensure efficient supply and management.
Final Testing and Inauguration Preparations Underway
Minister for Small-Scale Industries and Yadgir District In-Charge Sharanabasappa Darshanapur inspected the progress near the Bhima River.
According to him, the project is in its final stages, with only minor works remaining. A formal examination is expected in the coming weeks to assess compliance with quality standards and operational readiness.
