Mumbai: In a significant administrative reshuffle, the Government of Maharashtra has appointed senior IAS Rajesh Kumar Meena as the new Chief Secretary of the state.Â
Meena, a 1988 batch officer from the Maharashtra cadre, succeeds Sujata Saunik, who has retired after a historic tenure as the state’s first woman chief secretary.
Hailing from Sawai Madhopur district in Rajasthan, Meena is known for his administrative acumen and extensive experience across various departments. Prior to this appointment, he served as the Additional Chief Secretary (Revenue Department), where he played a crucial role in implementing policy reforms and enhancing administrative efficiency. Despite having only 61 days left before his superannuation in August 2025, Meena’s elevation to the state’s top bureaucratic post reflects the government’s confidence in his leadership during a critical period. His proven track record and deep understanding of governance are expected to help guide Maharashtra through ongoing reforms and administrative transitions.
Sujata Saunik, a 1987 batch IAS officer, concludes her remarkable service with a legacy of impactful governance. Her tenure was marked by a sharp focus on enhancing public service delivery, spearheading governance reforms, and driving administrative efficiency. She broke barriers as the first woman to lead the state bureaucracy, setting a benchmark for future leadership.
With this transition, Maharashtra begins a new chapter in its administrative leadership, placing trust in seasoned expertise while bidding farewell to a pioneering officer.
