Bengaluru: The Bengaluru metro network received a major boost on 10 August with Prime Minister Narendra Modi inaugurating the 19-km Yellow Line, connecting RV Road to Bommasandra via Electronic City. Built for Rs 7,160 crore, the corridor has 16 stations and will begin commercial operations on 11 August.

A one-way ride on the stretch is expected to cost Rs 60, with services starting with three trains running every 25 minutes, amounting to 72 trips per direction daily.

The line is designed to carry up to two lakh passengers per day, linking key IT hubs such as Infosys, Wipro, Biocon and Tech Mahindra, while easing traffic congestion at Silk Board and improving access to residential, industrial, and institutional zones along Hosur Road.

The Prime Minister also laid the foundation stone for Phase-3 of the Bengaluru Metro, a Rs 15,610 crore project covering over 44 km with 31 elevated stations, primarily serving underserved areas along Magadi Road and the western Outer Ring Road.

The project is targeted for completion by the end of 2029. Karnataka Chief Minister Siddaramaiah said the state had borne 87.37 per cent of the Yellow Line’s cost, with the Centre’s contribution at 12.63 perc ent, mostly in the form of repayable loans. He urged the Prime Minister to increase central support, noting that Bengaluru’s growth was crucial for the national economy.
