Itanagar: The Shi-Yomi district in Arunachal Pradesh will conduct the environmental public hearing for the 1000 MW Naying Hydroelectric Project.
The Deputy Commissioner has invited residents of the project-affected area to participate in the hearing at the Yaptik Community Hall.
The 1000 MW run-of-the-river project is proposed to be developed over the Siyom (Yomgo) river by the North Eastern Electric Power Corporation (NEEPCO).
The hydro project was okayed by the Central Electricity Authority (CEA) in 2013. The construction was initially scheduled to begin in 2015, but environmental and social concerns have since delayed implementation.
The project requires the diversion of significant forest land and will impact thousands of trees. The project also faces protests related to concerns about dams and their environmental and social impacts.
The construction work includes building a concrete dam, an underground powerhouse and a tunnel.
The construction is expected to begin around 2028, with the hydro project targeted for commissioning by 2032.
