New Delhi: The Telecommunication Engineering Centre (TEC), the technical arm of the Department of Telecommunications (DoT), has signed a Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) with the Indian Institute of Technology Hyderabad (IIT Hyderabad) to collaborate on advanced telecom technologies, research and global standardisation efforts.
The agreement, signed on 24 October by Amit Kumar Srivastava, DDG (Mobile Technologies), TEC and Prof Budaraju Srinivasa Murty, Director, IIT Hyderabad, marks a significant step towards strengthening India’s role in next-generation communication systems.
The signing ceremony was attended by Syed Tausif Abbas, Sr. DDG and Head (TEC) and Prof Kiran Kumar Kuchi of IIT Hyderabad.
Under the MoU, TEC and IIT Hyderabad will jointly pursue research on future network technologies such as 6G, Artificial Intelligence (AI) and Non-Terrestrial Networks (NTNs), while also developing India-specific telecom standards and test frameworks.
The partnership aims to enhance the country’s participation in global standardisation bodies like ITU-T (International Telecommunication Union – Telecommunication Standardisation Sector) and 3GPP.
The collaboration will cover key areas including mobile communication technologies (4G, 5G, NB-IoT), Open RAN and network disaggregation, architecture and enabling technologies for 6G, integration of terrestrial and non-terrestrial networks and research on Specific Absorption Rate (SAR) for health and compliance studies.
By combining TEC’s regulatory and technical expertise with IIT Hyderabad’s academic and research strengths, the partnership is expected to accelerate indigenous innovation and advance India’s presence in the global telecom landscape.
