New Delhi: A special 10-person team has been assembled by the National Investigation Agency (NIA) to look into the 10 November night explosion near Delhi’s Red Fort, which left 13 people dead and many injured. Around 6:52 pm, the explosion happened close to the Red Fort Metro Station, scattering bodies and damaged cars throughout the crowded area.
An Inspector General of Police (IG), two Deputy Inspectors General (DIG), three Superintendents of Police (SP), and four Deputy Superintendents of Police (DSP) will be part of the NIA team, which is reportedly headed by IPS Vijay Sakhare, the agency’s Director General. To identify the attackers and the network responsible for the attack, the team has been entrusted with carrying out a comprehensive investigation.
Following a review by Union Home Minister Amit Shah, who instructed federal agencies to assume responsibility, the case was formally turned over to the NIA on 11 November. A high-level meeting between the heads of the Intelligence Bureau (IB) and the NIA is then anticipated to be held to coordinate the investigation.
As part of its investigation, the NIA will take possession of all case diaries related to the Jaish module from the Jammu and Kashmir Police, Delhi Police and Haryana Police to assess its operational structure and financial backing. Over 1,000 CCTV footage clips from various locations across Delhi are being examined by investigative agencies.
Officials are also monitoring social media platforms and analysing mobile phone data from multiple areas in and around the blast site to trace potential suspects and their communication networks.
