Kolkata: Kolkata’s Science City is set to come up with a state-of-the-art modular exposition-cum-confetencr facility accommodating over 5000 people.
This project aims to transform the fairground at Science City into the largest indoor facility in eastern India. It will give a significant boost to Kolkata’s MICE capacity.
Together with the two existing auditoriums at Science City, this new project will boost capacity to around 8000.
Currently, the main auditorium at Science City can host 2232 attendees, with a stage that supports up to 100 performers. There is an adjoining mini-auditorium that can seat 400 guests.
The project is estimated to cost around Rs 200 crore to Rs 250 crore.
Once it becomes an indoor facility, there can be bookings for MICE events all year round.
This is crucial for generating enough funds for the upkeep and modernisation of Science City. At present, Science City requires around Rs 20 crore per year.
In addition to the auditor, there are plans to expand Science City’s parking facilities. The capacity will be increased from 500 to at least 1000 vehicles.
