TERI and DVC launch Energy Transition Hub (Ethens) in Kolkata to support coal-dependent eastern states in shifting to cleaner, just energy systems.

Kolkata: The Energy and Resources Institute (TERI) and the Damodar Valley Corporation (DVC) have launched a joint initiative in Kolkata called The Energy Transition Hub for the Eastern and Northeastern states (Ethens).

Ethens has been conceived as a discom-driven, demand-led regional platform to support coal-dependent regions as they move towards cleaner energy systems.

Ethens aims to help utilities translate national clean energy goals into implementable, region-specific strategies.

Ethens seeks to address the concerns of livelihood disruptions in states reliant on coal and thermal power generation.

This they plan to do by fostering research, policy dialogue and capacity-building to ensure a just and inclusive transition.

With the need for regional institutional innovation, a single national template cannot address diverse local constraints.
