New Delhi: The Ministry of Petroleum and Natural Gas has announced that all domestic LPG consumers must complete biometric Aadhaar authentication, also known as e-KYC.
The move aims to ensure that LPG subsidies reach genuine beneficiaries and to eliminate fake or duplicate gas connections from the system.
According to the government, the step will make the subsidy distribution system more transparent and efficient. Officials also clarified that the e-KYC process is completely free and can be completed from home using a smartphone.

Why the Government Introduced Mandatory e-KYC
The government introduced the rule to improve the delivery of LPG subsidies and strengthen the system against misuse. By linking consumer details with Aadhaar through biometric verification, authorities can confirm that subsidies are going to the correct individual.
The measure is also expected to help identify and remove duplicate or inactive LPG connections that may be wrongly receiving benefits.
The rule is particularly important for beneficiaries under the Pradhan Mantri Ujjwala Yojana (PMUY). Officials have warned that if consumers do not complete their e-KYC, future LPG subsidies may be stopped.
How to Complete LPG e-KYC Using a Mobile Phone
The government has simplified the process so consumers can complete it in just a few minutes.
First, consumers need to visit the official website- https://www.pmuy.gov.in/e-kyc.
After opening the link, users must follow the instructions provided on the page. The process requires facial biometric verification through the smartphone camera. The face scan is then matched with Aadhaar records to confirm the identity of the consumer.
Once the verification is successful, the e-KYC process is completed instantly.
Important for Ujjwala Scheme Beneficiaries
For households receiving LPG benefits under the Ujjwala scheme, completing e-KYC is essential. Beneficiaries are eligible for a targeted subsidy of Rs 300 on the 8th and 9th LPG refills.
Officials said the subsidy may be stopped if e-KYC is not completed. However, once the authentication is done, the subsidy will be restored. Consumers only need to complete the e-KYC once in a financial year.
