New Delhi: President Droupadi Murmu launched four women-focused welfare schemes of the Delhi Government at the “Sashakt Nari, Samriddh Delhi” programme in New Delhi.
The initiatives aim to improve women’s mobility, safety and financial security across the capital.
Addressing the gathering, the President said that steps such as free bus travel and integrated transport access would strengthen women’s independence and make urban spaces safer for them.
Pink National Common Mobility Card to Boost Safe Travel
A key highlight of the event was the launch of the Pink National Common Mobility Card. The card is designed to provide seamless access to Delhi’s public transport network.
It will support free bus travel for women and promote cashless, digital ticketing across buses and other transit systems. The card is expected to improve connectivity and make daily commuting more convenient.
President Murmu said that integrated transport access plays a vital role in enabling women to move freely for work, education, and other needs. She added that better mobility directly supports women’s participation in public life.
Two Free LPG Cylinders for Ration Card Holders
The Delhi Government also introduced a scheme to provide two free LPG cylinders each year to ration card-holding families. The cylinders will be distributed during Holi and Diwali.
The scheme targets economically weaker households and aims to reduce the financial burden of cooking fuel. It also seeks to promote the use of clean energy in homes across the city.
Officials said the initiative would offer timely relief to families during major festivals while encouraging a shift towards safer and cleaner cooking practices.
Delhi Lakhpati Bitiya Yojana for Girl Child Empowerment
Another major announcement was the Delhi Lakhpati Bitiya Yojana, focused on long-term financial support for girls.
Under the scheme, Rs 56,000 will be deposited in installments in the name of a girl child. With interest, the amount is expected to grow to over Rs 1 lakh by the time she turns 21. The maturity amount will be transferred to her Aadhaar-linked bank account if she meets the required educational criteria.
The scheme is available to families with an annual income of up to Rs 1.20 lakh who have lived in Delhi for at least three years. It applies to girls born in Delhi and is limited to two living girl children per family.
Meri Punji Mera Adhikaar to Ensure Financial Transparency
The fourth initiative, Meri Punji Mera Adhikaar, focuses on clearing pending financial dues and ensuring that citizens receive their entitled benefits in a transparent and time-bound manner.
The programme reflects the broader vision of “Sashakt Nari, Samriddh Delhi” to promote women’s empowerment through mobility, financial relief and improved access to public services.
