Hyderabad, August 31(APAC Media): Zomato is shutting its Hyderabad customer support centre, affecting around 240 employees.
The move is part of a restructuring of Zomato’s customer support operations, with the company consolidating its remaining in-house support team at its Gurugram headquarters, according to reports.
The development comes as Zomato has changed how it manages customer care over the past six months. A larger share of customer-support work has been shifted to external partners, reducing the need for the same level of in-house operations across multiple locations.
Employees were informed about the workforce reduction on Monday, August 31. The company has said the decision follows a review of its Customer Delight operating model and organisational requirements. The Hyderabad operations will be discontinued, while in-house customer support will be organised from Gurugram.
The restructuring does not mean Zomato is ending customer support operations altogether. Instead, the company is combining its remaining in-house operations at one location while relying more heavily on specialised external partners for customer-care work.
The affected employees are reportedly being offered severance and other support measures. Reports said the package includes four months of pay, including contractual notice pay and a one-time ex-gratia payment.
The job cuts add to the recent focus on workforce restructuring across India’s technology and startup sector, as companies continue to review operating models and costs.
