India’s National Cybersecurity Response Agency
The Indian Computer Emergency Response Team (CERT-In) is a functional organisation of the Ministry of Electronics and Information Technology (MeitY), Government of India, with the objective of securing Indian cyberspace. CERT-In has been operational since January 2004.
CERT-In works across India’s cyber ecosystem and engages with government departments, public sector organisations, State CSIRTs, industry, security vendors, law-enforcement agencies, academia, international CERTs and other stakeholders.
Securing Indian cyberspace through national coordination, proactive preparedness and trusted cyber resilience.
Its role extends beyond responding to incidents. CERT-In undertakes proactive activities including vulnerability analysis, risk assessment, cybersecurity advisories, training, awareness and development of preventive strategies.
In an increasingly connected India, cyber resilience is fundamental to national security, economic continuity and public trust.
CERT-In serves as a critical national coordination point for cybersecurity incident response and helps strengthen the ability of organisations to prevent, detect, respond to and recover from cyber incidents. Its mandate spans the wider Indian cyber community, including government, public and private-sector organisations.
The importance of this role is becoming even more pronounced as emerging technologies reshape the threat environment. In 2026, CERT-In has issued guidance addressing AI-assisted vulnerability exploitation and AI-accelerated vulnerability protection and response, reflecting the growing importance of AI in the cybersecurity landscape.
