Chennai: The Tamil Nadu government has credited Rs 5,000 each to 1.31 crore women beneficiaries under the Kalaignar Women’s Rights Scheme ahead of the Assembly elections, disbursing three months’ assistance in advance along with a special seasonal grant.
According to Chief Minister MK Stalin, Rs 3,000 has been transferred as advance payment for February, March and April, in addition to a Rs 2,000 “summer special package”. The total amount was credited to the beneficiaries’ accounts on Friday morning.
Stalin said the Women’s Rights Grant reflects a commitment made to the women of the state and alleged that attempts were being made to stall the scheme for three months citing the upcoming elections. He asserted that the government moved ahead with the advance transfer to ensure continuity of financial support.
The Chief Minister further announced that if returned to power, the government under “Dravidian Model 2.0” would double the current monthly assistance of Rs 1,000 to Rs 2,000. Calling it a promise to the women of Tamil Nadu, he said the enhanced support would be implemented in the next term.
