New Delhi: Tamil Nadu Chief Minister M K Stalin on 9 February inaugurated Tata Motors-Jaguar Land Rover’s (JLR) passenger car manufacturing plant at Panapakkam village in Ranipet district, marking a major milestone for India’s luxury automobile manufacturing segment.
Built with an investment of Rs 9,000 crore, the facility is JLR’s first manufacturing plant in India dedicated to producing its luxury models.
Following the inauguration, the Chief Minister flagged off the roll-out of JLR vehicles from the plant in the presence of N. Chandrasekaran, Chairman of Tata Sons and Tata Motors Passenger Vehicles Ltd. Senior officials of the group and the state government were also present.
Chandrasekaran said the commissioning of the Ranipet facility represents a significant step in strengthening India’s position in sustainable and future-ready manufacturing. He noted that the plant integrates advanced manufacturing technologies with a highly skilled workforce to deliver world-class vehicles.
Addressing the gathering, Stalin said the start of operations at the Ranipet unit signals the expansion of world-class automotive manufacturing in Tamil Nadu and reinforces the state’s position as a leading automobile hub.
Production at the plant will be scaled up in phases, with the facility expected to reach its full annual capacity of 250,000 vehicles within five to seven years.
The unit will cater to both domestic and international markets and is expected to generate over 5,000 direct and indirect jobs, while also contributing to skill development in the region.
