New Delhi, May 7 (APAC Media): IndiaAI and the Indian Council of Medical Research (ICMR) have signed a Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) to accelerate the responsible use of artificial intelligence (AI) in healthcare and biomedical research across India.
The collaboration, implemented through the Digital India Corporation under the Ministry of Electronics and Information Technology (MeitY), aims to create a nationally integrated and interoperable AI ecosystem for healthcare.
Key highlights of the collaboration:
- AIKosh Dataset Platform: ICMR will contribute anonymised and ethics-approved biomedical datasets, AI models, and toolkits developed under its MIDAS framework to IndiaAI’s AIKosh platform. This is expected to improve access to high-quality healthcare datasets for startups, researchers, and innovators.
- Advanced Compute Infrastructure: IndiaAI will provide ICMR with subsidised access to GPU-based and high-performance computing systems to strengthen large-scale AI research and deployment in healthcare.
- AI Solutions for Public Health: Both organisations will jointly develop AI-powered tools to address major public health challenges using ICMR’s disease burden data and IndiaAI’s technology stack.
The MoU builds upon ongoing cooperation between the two institutions. In September 2025, IndiaAI and ICMR’s National Institute for Research in Digital Health and Data Sciences were recognised as Pioneer Countries under the HealthAI Global Regulatory Network, a global initiative co-founded with the United Kingdom and Singapore for responsible AI governance in healthcare.
Officials said the collaboration is expected to drive innovation at the intersection of healthcare and technology while ensuring strong safeguards for ethics, privacy, and regulatory compliance in the deployment of AI solutions.
