Kolkata, October 6 (APAC Media): The West Bengal Government has approved recruitment to 14,454 government posts, with the hiring process expected to be completed within six to eight months. The state Cabinet has also approved the Bhagini Nivedita Scheme, under which unmarried women pursuing higher education will receive financial assistance of Rs 50,000 over three years.
The announcements were made by Chief Minister Suvendu Adhikari after a Cabinet meeting at the state secretariat. The government also approved increases in the remuneration of Karmabandhus and the food allowance for SC and ST students staying in government hostels.
14,454 Government Posts to Be Filled
The newly approved vacancies will be spread across several departments, including forests, fire services, prisons, home and hill affairs.
Adhikari said the Public Service Commission (PSC) and the State Police Recruitment Board will oversee the examination and recruitment process for the vacancies.
He said the government is working towards its earlier commitment of providing one lakh government jobs in the state and that the PSC is working to clear pending recruitment processes.
Separately, appointment-related formalities for around 12,000 police posts will be taken up on October 11, with around 5,000 candidates expected to receive appointment letters at a programme on the same day.
Bhagini Nivedita Scheme
The Cabinet has approved the Bhagini Nivedita Scheme to support unmarried women pursuing higher education.
Under the scheme, eligible beneficiaries will receive Rs 17,000 each in the first and second years, followed by Rs 16,000 in the third year, taking the total assistance to Rs 50,000.
The scheme is scheduled to be implemented from January next year.
Karmabandhu Pay, Hostel Food Allowance Raised
The monthly remuneration of Karmabandhus, contractual sanitation workers engaged under the Land and Land Revenue Department, has been increased from Rs 5,000 to Rs 8,000, effective this month.
The monthly food allowance for SC and ST students living in government hostels has also been increased from Rs 1,800 to Rs 3,300.
112 Emergency Number, New Police Vehicles
The state will launch the 112 emergency response number for the police on October 10, coinciding with Mahalaya.
As part of the police modernisation programme, 400 vehicles and 450 motorcycles will also be handed over to various police stations at an event at the Brigade Parade Ground.
3,000-Drone Show at Eden Gardens
West Bengal will also host a major cultural programme at Eden Gardens on October 10 to mark Mahalaya.
The event is expected to draw around 45,000 people and will feature a special display involving around 3,000 drones. The Governor has also been invited to attend the programme.
Adhikari described the drone display as one of the major attractions of this year’s celebrations.
