New Delhi, May 7 (APAC Media): Bharat Petroleum Corporation Limited (BPCL) has partnered with the Indian Institute of Technology Madras to establish the Centre for Next-Gen Technologies for Robotic-Assisted Surgeries, named YANTRAS, at the institute.
The collaboration was formally launched during the IIT Madras Technology Summit 2026 held at Bharat Mandapam under the theme “From IITM. For Bharat. Building Together.”
The event was attended by the Union Education Minister, Dharmendra Pradhan, and Minister of State for Education and Skill Development & Entrepreneurship Jayant Chaudhary.
Key objectives of the YANTRAS Centre are:
To promote indigenous innovation in robotic-assisted surgeries
To advance research in next-generation medical technologies
To support startup incubation and entrepreneurship in healthcare technology
To provide specialised training and skill development
To encourage global collaborations in medical innovation
According to the institutions, the centre will focus on reducing India’s dependence on imported medical technologies while boosting the development of indigenous patents and healthcare solutions. The initiative is also expected to open new opportunities for researchers, innovators, and startups working in advanced medical technology.
The partnership reflects the growing emphasis on collaboration between industry, academia, and government to strengthen India’s healthcare technology ecosystem and accelerate innovation-driven healthcare solutions for the future.
