New Delhi, May 6 (APAC Media): The Central Government will launch a nationwide annual health check-up initiative for workers aged 40 years and above on May 7, 2026, under the new Labour Codes.
The programme will be inaugurated by Union Labour and Employment Minister Mansukh Mandaviya from the ESIC Medical College and Hospital, New Delhi.
Initiative Linked to New Labour Codes
The health check-up programme has been introduced as part of the reforms under the four new Labour Codes, aiming to improve social security coverage and encourage formal employment.
The initiative is also in line with Prime Minister Narendra Modi’s “Shramev Jayate” vision, which focuses on the dignity and welfare of workers.
Under the Code on Social Security, 2020, benefits have been expanded to include unorganised workers, gig workers, and platform workers.
Focus on Preventive Healthcare for Workers
As part of the new initiative, annual medical check-ups will be mandatory for workers above the age of 40. These health screenings will be conducted through ESIC hospitals and healthcare centres across the country.
In addition, workers employed in hazardous industries or who handle chemicals, toxic materials, or heavy machinery will be required to undergo medical examinations regardless of age.
Strengthening Occupational Healthcare
The government said the initiative is aimed at improving occupational healthcare systems and expanding access to medical services for workers across sectors. Authorities also plan to maintain digital health records for long-term tracking and medical support.
The programme is also being seen as part of the broader goal of strengthening social security and workforce welfare under the vision of Viksit Bharat 2047.
