Acer’s strategic outlook for its Swift brand is to position it as a premium, versatile and experience-led portfolio, rather than simply as an AI PC brand. In an exclusive conversation, Sooraj Balakrishnan, Head of Marketing, Acer India tells Rajneesh De, Group Editor, APAC Media & CXO Media that the Swift proposition is built around the combination of premium design, mobility, performance and everyday usability. AI further enhances this proposition by enabling smarter, more efficient and personalised experiences for users.
How would you describe Acer’s core strategy centered on an AI-first product focus? How is Acer embedding on-device AI across its product ecosystem?
Acer’s AI strategy is centred on making AI a meaningful enabler across our product portfolio, rather than treating it as a standalone feature or simply adding an “AI” label to our devices. We are embedding AI capabilities into our products to make everyday computing more intelligent, efficient and personalised, while continuing to focus on the fundamentals that consumers value: performance, design, mobility, battery efficiency and usability.
Across our PC portfolio, this is being enabled through technologies such as Intel Core Ultra processors and dedicated NPUs, which allow AI workloads to be handled more efficiently without taking away resources from other demanding tasks. Features such as Microsoft Copilot further bring AI into everyday workflows, helping users with tasks such as research, content creation, productivity, and information management. As we evolve the broader Acer ecosystem, our focus will remain on identifying where on-device AI can deliver a tangible benefit to users and integrating it seamlessly into the overall product experience.
What products, solutions, and services are currently available in the Acer portfolio?
Acer today has a diverse portfolio spanning computing, gaming, consumer electronics, home appliances, servers and data-centre solutions, and lifestyle products. Computing remains at the core, with a broad range of laptops and PCs across the Swift, Aspire, Nitro and Predator portfolios, alongside monitors and other peripherals designed for consumers, gamers and professionals.
This portfolio comes together under the House of Acer, which represents Acer’s ambition to bring diverse products, experiences and technology solutions under one trusted brand. Beyond computing, Acer has expanded into adjacent categories through Acerpure, which focuses on home appliances and consumer electronics; Altos, which offers servers and enterprise computing solutions; and Acer Luggage, extending the brand into lifestyle and mobility. Together, these businesses reflect Acer’s vision of building a broader technology and lifestyle ecosystem while continuing to strengthen its core computing business.
What is Acer’s strategic outlook for the ‘Swift’ brand as it competes with other AI-enabled thin-and-light laptops currently flooding the Indian market?
Acer’s strategic outlook for the Swift brand is to position it as a premium, versatile and experience-led portfolio, rather than simply as an AI PC brand. While AI capabilities are becoming an important part of the category, they are an enabler of the overall Swift experience, not the sole reason to choose a Swift laptop.
The Swift proposition is built around the combination of premium design, mobility, performance and everyday usability. Features such as slim and lightweight form factors, high-quality displays including OLED options, strong battery efficiency, backlit keyboards and thoughtful user-centric features come together to deliver a well-rounded premium experience. AI further enhances this proposition by enabling smarter, more efficient and personalised experiences for users.
As the Indian market sees a growing number of AI-enabled thin-and-light laptops, we believe the differentiation will increasingly come from the complete product experience rather than the AI label alone. Swift will therefore continue to focus on delivering the right balance of design, performance, portability and intelligent features, making AI a meaningful addition to an already strong premium laptop proposition.
What key customer insights drove the design decisions for the Swift Neo, specifically regarding the 1.25 kg weight and 180-degree hinge?
The Swift Neo is designed around the reality that today’s users are increasingly mobile and use their laptops across multiple environments, not just between the office and home, but while travelling, at airports, in cafés and across meetings. At 1.25 kg, the lightweight design makes it easier to carry throughout the day, while strong battery efficiency ensures users are not constantly tied to a charging point.
The 180-degree hinge adds another layer of flexibility. It allows users to adjust the screen comfortably across different environments and makes content sharing in meetings much easier. For instance, users can flip the display towards someone sitting opposite while retaining control of the keyboard and touchpad. These design choices are ultimately about making the laptop more adaptable to the way people work today.
How is Acer aggressively capitalizing on regional demand to establish market momentum?
India is not a homogeneous market, and consumer preferences and buying behaviour vary significantly across regions. Our approach, therefore, is to be more local rather than follow a one-size-fits-all national strategy.
We are strengthening our exclusive store presence across smaller towns, deepening regional distribution, investing in regional-language and culturally relevant marketing, and using our D2C website to reach approximately 18,000–19,000 pin codes. With our stores already present across more than 180 cities, these initiatives help us get closer to consumers and capture regional demand more effectively.
What are the key pillars of Acer’s GTM strategy in India, and what key initiatives support this strategy?
Our GTM strategy is built around the right portfolio, omnichannel presence, regional relevance, and customer experience. We focus on developing products with the features and price points that address Indian consumer needs, including products designed and manufactured for the local market rather than simply bringing in what is available globally.
Our online and offline channels are complementary, with our D2C platform adding to the overall omnichannel experience. At the same time, we are strengthening our regional distribution and investing deeper in Tier-2 and Tier-3 markets. Ultimately, our focus is on ensuring that the right product is available in the right market at the right price point.
How does Acer plan to leverage the partnership with Flipkart to address the specific needs of the Tier-2 and Tier-3 markets in India?
Flipkart’s extensive reach across Tier-2 and Tier-3 markets makes it a natural partner for Acer as we expand our presence in these regions. This complements the investments we have already made through our retail presence, marketing and consumer awareness initiatives.
Flipkart’s deep logistics network, affordability programmes, regional-language capabilities and exchange programmes can help us reach consumers more quickly and make our portfolio more accessible. The platform also provides valuable insights into demand patterns and emerging markets, which can support our demand planning and help us make a wider selection of products available to consumers.
How is Acer’s channel network currently structured in India?
Acer has built a broad omnichannel network that combines physical and digital channels. This includes our exclusive stores, large-format retailers, multi-brand outlets, D2C website, and leading e-commerce platforms such as Flipkart and Amazon. We also work with select quick-commerce platforms for certain portfolios.
This combination gives us both the width and depth to reach consumers across different markets and buying preferences, while ensuring that online and offline channels complement each other.
How does the integration of Intel Core Ultra processors and AI Boost specifically enhance the multitasking and creative workflows for Indian professionals compared to previous generations?
With Intel Core Ultra processors, the dedicated Neural Processing Unit (NPU) enables AI workloads to be handled separately rather than placing the entire burden on the CPU or GPU. In previous generations, AI tasks could consume CPU or GPU resources, potentially limiting the bandwidth available for other graphics-intensive or demanding workloads.
With the NPU handling AI-related tasks, workloads can be distributed more efficiently across the CPU, GPU and NPU depending on the task. For professionals, this is particularly valuable when they are simultaneously on a video call, working on presentations, analysing data, running multiple applications or creating and editing content while using AI tools. It enables a more efficient and balanced computing experience.
How does the integration of Microsoft Copilot within Windows 11 Home change the daily usage pattern for the target student and creator demographics?
The integration of Copilot makes AI a more natural part of the everyday PC workflow rather than something users need to access separately through a third-party platform. For students, it can help with understanding topics, structuring research and summarising information, while creators can use AI capabilities as part of their broader workflow.
More importantly, because Copilot is integrated within Windows, it can provide a more contextual experience around the work being done on the device. This makes AI more accessible and seamlessly integrated into everyday productivity rather than being treated as a separate application or activity.
With the growing demand for hybrid work devices, what are the primary security advantages offered by the Swift Neo beyond the integrated fingerprint reader?
Acer laptops incorporate multiple layers of hardware- and software-based security, including features such as Trusted Platform Module (TPM) 2.0, Secure Boot, Windows security capabilities and Microsoft Defender, alongside biometric authentication available on select models. Together, these technologies help protect credentials, encrypt sensitive information, prevent unauthorised software from loading during startup and strengthen overall device security.
For organisations with more advanced requirements, Acer’s commercial and business laptop portfolio extends this further with enterprise-grade security, manageability and deployment capabilities designed for IT-managed environments. These solutions enable businesses to protect endpoints, manage devices more efficiently and reduce risks associated with employees working outside traditional office networks.
Ultimately, Acer’s approach is to ensure that mobility and productivity do not come at the expense of security. Whether it is a consumer professional using an Acer laptop or an enterprise deploying Acer business laptops at scale, the objective is to provide a secure, reliable computing environment suited to the realities of today’s hybrid workforce.
