New Delhi, May 7 (APAC Media): The Delhi government has announced a major plan to modernise 611 anganwadi centres across the city with a focus on improving infrastructure, child-care facilities, and space management.
The upgraded centres are expected to become a model for the future revamp of the rest of the 10,897 anganwadi centres in the capital.
Redesign to Improve Facilities
The new anganwadi centres will include dedicated areas for learning, play, and early childhood care, along with more organised and child-friendly interiors.
Special attention will be given to centres operating in congested localities to make better use of limited urban spaces.
Focus on Child Welfare and Early Education
“Anganwadi centres play a vital role in community welfare by providing nutrition support, early childhood education, and childcare services,” said Rashmi Singh, Secretary, Women and Child Development Department (WCD).
She noted that many centres currently function from small rented buildings or overcrowded locations that are not suitable for quality services.
The government said the upgraded infrastructure is expected to improve early childhood care and create a better learning environment for children.
Push for Better Community Services
The WCD department added that the initiative is part of a broader effort to strengthen nutrition, learning, and care services for women and children.
A workshop was also conducted at the Delhi Secretariat where officials, NGOs, and stakeholders involved in this sector discussed ways to improve anganwadi infrastructure and service delivery.
