Noida, May 11 (APAC Media): India’s third semiconductor manufacturing facility is scheduled to begin production in July this year, while the fourth unit is expected to become operational by November–December, Union Electronics and IT Minister Ashwini Vaishnaw said on Monday.
The minister said the rollout of semiconductor projects is progressing in line with the government’s plan to develop a strong domestic chip manufacturing ecosystem and cut dependence on imports.
He added that multiple semiconductor units approved under the national programme are at different stages of implementation, with some nearing completion and others moving into advanced phases of testing and setup.

“The most heartening development is in semiconductor manufacturing. We started this journey in 1962 and made several attempts over the decades. Various Prime Ministers, including Jawaharlal Nehru, Indira Gandhi, Rajiv Gandhi and Dr Manmohan Singh, also tried to establish this sector. Ultimately, success has come under Prime Minister Narendra Modi’s leadership. Today, we already have two factories in commercial production. The third is expected to begin commercial production in July, and the fourth is likely to start around November or December,” Union Minister Ashwini Vaishnaw added.
The government has been actively promoting semiconductor manufacturing through policy support and investment incentives as part of its broader strategy to position India as a key player in the global electronics supply chain.
Officials said the upcoming facilities are expected to strengthen domestic capabilities in chip production for sectors including consumer electronics, automotive, and telecommunications.
Expressing confidence in India’s economic outlook, the minister said the country is expected to sustain annual growth of 6–8% while maintaining inflation within manageable levels.
