Chennai, May 10 (APAC Media): C. Joseph Vijay has been sworn in as the Chief Minister of Tamil Nadu in a grand ceremony held at Jawaharlal Nehru Stadium in Chennai.Â
Governor R. V. Arlekar administered the oath of office and secrecy to Vijay and his cabinet members in the presence of political leaders, party workers, and thousands of supporters.
The swearing-in ceremony witnessed the attendance of senior leaders, including Rahul Gandhi, highlighting the significance of the new coalition government in the state.
Vijay’s party, Tamilaga Vettri Kazhagam (TVK), emerged victorious in the 2026 Tamil Nadu Assembly elections by winning 108 seats. However, the party fell short of the majority mark of 118 seats required to form the government independently. Following the results, TVK secured support from alliance partners, including the Indian National Congress, Communist Party of India, Communist Party of India (Marxist), Viduthalai Chiruthaigal Katchi, and Indian Union Muslim League.
Along with Vijay, nine ministers were sworn into the cabinet. K. A. Sengottaiyan was assigned the Public Works Department, while Aadhav Arjuna took charge of Sports. Other portfolios included School Education for P. Venkataramanan, Electricity for R. Nirmalkumar, Revenue for Dr. Arunraj K.G., Municipal Administration for N. Anand, and Scheduled Castes & Scheduled Tribes Welfare for Rajmohan. Portfolios for Dr. T.K. Prabhu and Selvi S. Keerthana are yet to be announced.
The new government is expected to expand further, with ministers from allied coalition parties likely to be inducted in the coming days.
