Kolkata, May 9 (APAC Media): Suvendu Adhikari was sworn in as the first Chief Minister from the Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) in West Bengal today.
This marks a historic political shift in the state. The oath-taking ceremony was held in Kolkata, where Governor R. N. Ravi administered the oath of office and secrecy to Adhikari and five other ministers.
The newly inducted members of the Council of Ministers include Dilip Ghosh, Agnimitra Paul, Ashok Kirtania, Kshudiram Tudu, and Nisith Pramanik, who also took an oath as ministers.
The grand ceremony was attended by Prime Minister Narendra Modi, senior NDA leaders, Union Ministers, and Chief Ministers from several states.
The BJP secured a landmark victory in the West Bengal Assembly elections, winning 207 out of 264 seats. The elections were conducted in two phases on April 23 and 29, while counting took place on May 4. The victory marks the BJP’s first-ever government in the state and is being viewed as a major political milestone in eastern India.
