Puducherry, May 13 (APAC Media): The National Democratic Alliance (NDA) government led by N. Rangasamy was sworn in on Wednesday, with the veteran leader taking oath as Chief Minister of Puducherry for a record fifth time.
The oath-taking ceremony took place at the Puducherry Lok Bhavan, where Lieutenant Governor K. Kailasanathan administered the oath of office and secrecy to Rangasamy and the newly inducted ministers.
With this swearing-in, Rangasamy has become the first political leader in Puducherry’s history to hold the Chief Minister’s post five times, creating a new milestone in the history of the Union Territory.
NDA Secures Comfortable Majority
The NDA alliance secured a clear majority in the recently concluded Puducherry Assembly elections. In the 30-member Assembly:
- All India N.R. Congress won 12 seats
- Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) secured 4 seats
- AIADMK won 1 seat
- Latchiya Jananayaga Katchi secured 1 seat
The All India N.R. Congress emerged as the leading party within the alliance, strengthening Rangasamy’s leadership position in the region.
Focus on Stability and Development
Political enthusiasts believe the continuation of the Rangasamy-led government signals political stability in Puducherry, where regional parties continue to play a key role in governance.
The new administration is expected to focus on Welfare programmes, infrastructure development, employment generation, and better coordination with the central government.
Officials said the government is likely to prioritise development-oriented governance and public welfare initiatives in the coming years.
