Chandigarh, May 8 (APAC Media): The Punjab Government, led by Chief Minister Bhagwant Singh Mann, has released ₹204.69 crore under the Free Textbook Supply Scheme for Scheduled Caste (SC) students studying from Classes I to X.
“The scheme aims to improve access to education for children from economically weaker and marginalised communities across the state.” Social Justice, Empowerment and Minorities Minister Baljit Kaur said.
Focus on Equal Educational Opportunities
Dr Baljit Kaur said the government considers education a key driver of social equality, empowerment, and long-term economic progress.
The funds for this scheme have been provided to the Punjab School Education Board to support the distribution of free textbooks to thousands of SC students.
The minister noted that these initiatives are part of a broader vision to build a more inclusive and progressive Punjab. She stressed that empowering children through education is essential for strengthening social justice and creating a self-reliant society.
Kaur further emphasised the government’s unwavering commitment to providing education to every child, regardless of their financial situation.
The Free Textbook Supply Scheme is being seen as an important step towards reducing educational inequality and supporting students from disadvantaged backgrounds by giving them better opportunities for academic growth and future development.
